The M{𝓲𝑓} New Narratives Summer School, Kontula, Finland

This call is for writers young and old, teachers, activists, students and researchers who are interested in thinking with us within the context of children’s literature and children’s culture but also around pedagogy.

“the child you have beside you – close in any case, there is always a child close – is potentially the revolutionary of tomorrow. Just as he may also be the most resolute of defenders of the established order”Ariel Dorfman (1974) Innocence and neo-colonialism. A case of ideological domination in children’s literature. From a collection of essays by the author, called Ensayos Quemados (Burnt Essays).

The Museum of Impossible Forms together with The Children’s Library project at Åbo Akademi University would like to invite you to our first summer school. The aim of the school is to bring together artists, writers, pedagogs, researchers and cultural workers working and thinking around the production of children’s literature and culture, within the context of Finland and the nordic region specifically but consciously drawing from the knowledges of the South. We especially invited people who see the importance of shaping discourse around the decolonial option, antiracist and queer-feminist discursive formations. Our focus will not only be around theory and research but is weighted towards practice. Our program will combine presentations, discussions, screenings and workshops lead by local and international thinkers and artists.
